The alpaca experience will begin with a short safety briefing where you’ll be taken through all the important stuff and all the ‘do’s & the don’t’s to ensure that your experience is as safe and as enjoyable as possible.

The walk itself usually lasts for around 30 minutes, however this does all depend on the Alpacas. Sometimes they like to take their time and enjoy the scenery, other times they like walk around slightly quicker.

Once the walk has finished, we’ll then release them back into the paddock, where they’ll spend the rest of the day, grazing. Lydford Gorge Alpacas

Take your alpaca on a 2.5 mile trail straight from the farm onto a moorland track in Dartmoor National Park. Follow a stony bridleway out towards Brentor Church which sits high on top of an extinct volcanic cone.

With far reaching views in every direction, you get to gaze at Great Links, Brat and Alms Tor on the return (if you can take your eyes off of your furry pal!).

Stop for ‘pea pitstops’ along the way where you will get to feed your alpaca pal some of his favourite treats (dried peas) and take some photographs.

The walk itself lasts at least an hour at alpaca speed (that’s not very fast!) and takes you around the land, lake and woodland (no hills).

Then you come back, say goodbye to the alpacas and you get to feed the goats. Then you can say hello to the other animals here on the farm at your leisure including sheep, alpacas, miniature donkeys, shetland ponies and the goats

Why not go and join Alpaca Adventures on their small holding near the Wiltshire/Dorset border just outside Shaftesbury for a walk with their beautiful alpacas.

You start with an introduction to the animals on the smallholding. You will meet the girls and their Cria (baby alpacas) depending on the time of year.

You will then be introduced to the alpaca that you will be walking with and be shown how to walk and handle them.

The walk takes around one and a half to two hours, and consists of an initial rounding up of the herd and learning all about the alpacas.

This is followed by harnessing the chosen alpacas, and then a gentle stroll through beautiful Dorset countryside, or the local hamlet. It is located on a private lane set in parkland laid out by ‘Capability’ Brown, which is an area designated as being of ‘Outstanding Natural Beauty.’

Longthorns Farm Alpaca Experience lasts approx 1-hour 45-minutes, consisting of an alpaca learning session and safety induction, introduction to the alpaca’s, facts, and figures about these amazing animals. It starts with a short (approx. 15min) introduction to the Alpacas whilst they get them ready for you and they’ll go over a few do’s and don’ts for you to observe around the Alpacas; after this you’ll be introduced to your Alpaca for the walk and you’ll set off.

Your walk will last around 45min to an hour depending on how lazy the alpacas are feeling, and how many photo (or alpaca toilet) stops there are.

You should be able to give them a little feed (they don’t charge any extra for that) and take pics also no charge. They’ll take you to see the girls and any babies they have after the trek if you wish.

Blackwater Alpacas

Alpaca Walking Experiences take approximately 90 minutes, consisting of a Welcome and brief Health & Safety chat, meeting the walking team, holding the lead rein training, a walk around the paddock to get used to walking your alpaca.

Pure Alpacas

Alpaca walks around a beautiful farm in Gloucestershire. Situated between the Malvern Hills and the Cleeve Escarpment, they are superbly located for some truly magnificent vistas of the surrounding views.

After a short introduction to the farm, you will be introduced you to the different groups of alpacas including the mums and babies where you can get up close, hand feed and get some great selfies.

You will then halter up your walking alpaca team and set off for a casual walk around the farm. During the walk, they will tell you a little about alpacas, their history and what they do with their stunning fleece.

The minimum age for walking an alpaca on your own is eight, however younger people from five and up can get involved and walk an alpaca on a double lead.

Leaving the adult in control but allowing the young person to enjoy the experience. Younger children can join in but can’t actually walk the animals but can walk alongside holding hands or be carried in a sling if a baby.

After choosing your animal and being instructed in Health and Safety and walking techniques by your walk leader, you’re now ready to go. The alpaca walk takes between thirty and forty minutes, with photo and feeding opportunities at the end.

The views from the top of the farm out over the Solent are spectacular and you will be given the chance to stop and admire them.

Apple Tree Alpacas

Take a walk on the wild side in the stunning South Pennines and Calder Valley. Your day will start upon arrival with a brief talk about Alpacas.

You will then be introduced to the Alpacas you are going to walk and a bit about their likes and dislikes. They will let you get used to your Alpaca and let them get to know you a little before you set off.

Your alpaca will be haltered and ready for your walk on arrival, so if you have a particular favourite you would like to walk, please let them know before hand. You will be shown how to lead your alpaca, and their individual likes and dislikes. Then were under starters orders…. and you’re off!

Beacon Alpacas

Location : Suncliffe Beacon Farm, Husthwaite, York, YO61 4PD

The normal walk is just over an hour but you should allow up to 2 hours for your experience to meet other alpacas and take pictures.

When you arrive you’ll meet the alpacas that you are going to walk with and be given a briefing.

There are ample opportunities for photos along the way and you will see some of the rest of the herd. They’ll tell you about alpacas as you walk; where they are from, what they eat, about their fleece and how they are farmed.

The views on a clear day are stunning and you can see the White Horse at Kilburn and the Vale of York.

Harewood Alpaca Walking Experience

Location : Harewood House Trust, Harewood House Harewood, Leeds LS17 9LG

Zebedee and Zucchini have been living at Harewood for three years. Completely settled and totally friendly, they’re now offering you the opportunity to get up close and personal by taking them for a walk and seeing a different view of Harewood.

Turn off your screens, get the kids closer to nature, the Alpacas walk each weekend for just over an hour and twice each day at 10.15am and 2.15pm, with time to get them ready, feed them, learn more about them and take in the peace and tranquillity of their calming nature.

You can also join the expert keeper on an ‘after hours’ Alpaca walk whilst taking in the breathtaking views of Harewood House, Grounds and Gardens.

This experience gives you the opportunity to see parts of Harewood rarely seen by visitors. The keeper will take you on a 2 hour walk around the Grounds whilst it is closed to the general public, this really is an exclusive treat!

Sandhills Alpaca Trekking

Location : Sandhills Farm Cottage, Ness Lane, Tockwith, YO26 7QL

They will be running treks daily from the farm on a circular route across fields on wide tracks and back down a quiet country lane. The experience starts with a short health and safety briefing. The walks are every day at 10.30am.

Each walk with take between 1 and 1.5 hours which leaves plenty of time to take those all important selfies and little stops the Alpacas take on the way round.
