Lincoln Castle Illuminated
Location : Castle Hill, Lincoln LN1 3AA
Lincoln Castle Illuminated is back, and it’s bigger and brighter than ever before.
The magical and much-loved Christmas event will run from Friday 8 December until Saturday 23 December, giving families and friends the perfect and unmissable opportunity to get into the festive spirit.
You will be able enjoy the castle grounds bejewelled with festive lights and illuminated Christmas features, take a trip down Candy Cane Lane, and give your warmest season’s greetings to our resident castle dragons – Lucy and Norman.
The castle has retained its popular Illuminated Wall Walk so visitors can see this historical landmark in a sparkling, festive light and take in the beautiful night-time views across the city and county. Then it’s all aboard our ‘Mini Polar Express’ before enjoying other traditional fairground rides beloved by young and old.
As no Christmas event is complete without festive food, local vendors will be offering sweet treats and winter warmers, including hot chocolate and mulled wine.

Oxford Christmas At The Castle

Christmas Trail
Santa is coming to town! meet Father Christmas and enjoy some fun festive activities at Oxford Castle & Prison.
On arrival you’ll be greeted by one of Santa’s Castle elves before being taken into the base of St. Georges Tower, home to over 1,000 years of history. You will then be taken to our 900 year old Norman crypt where another one of Santa’s elves will talk you through how to make wildlife friendly reindeer food that you can take away with you ready for the big day itself.
Afterwards take a walk through the old Victorian Prison wing where you can make your very own Christmas Tree bauble and for the adults, you’ll get to try a sample of mead.
Then it is time to meet the big man himself, each family gets to spend some time with Santa who will give out a pre-Christmas present. One of the elves will capture a festive photo which will be available to purchase afterwards.
Lantern LED Tours
Discover 1,000 years of history by lantern light this Christmas Season!
Throughout December all our daily tours will be led by lantern light! As the nights draw in, join our guides on an atmospheric lantern-lit tour of the history of Oxford Castle and Prison.
Hear the real stories of Oxford’s past, see the wintery lights of Oxford from St George’s tower, and delve into the cells and crypt by flickering lantern light.
