Come From Away Musical Hits Norwich Theatre

Tonight Neva and I went along to the opening night of Come From Away Musical which is at Norwich Theatre until 26th October, it has had such great reviews that Neva came back from university just to go and watch it!

The tragic events of 11th September 2001 is not something you are ever likely to forget, I remember driving back from my friends house with the radio on and it was announced, it was 11 days before our wedding and we hadn’t booked our honeymoon yet!

What Is Come From Away Musical About?

7,000 Stranded Passengers. One Small Town. A Remarkable True Story.

Winner of four Olivier Awards including Best New Musical in London and the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical on Broadway, this smash hit show shares the incredible real-life story of the 7,000 air passengers from all over the world who were grounded in Canada during the wake of 9/11, and the small Newfoundland community that invited these ‘come from aways’ into their lives with open hearts.

Experience this joyous story and soaring music as spirited locals and global passengers come together to forge friendships that will stay with them forever. The first female American Airlines captain, the quick-thinking town mayor, the mother of a New York firefighter and the eager local news reporter are among the many real characters caught at the start of the moment that changed the course of history and whose stories became a true celebration of hope, humanity and unity.

Tony Award-winning director Christopher Ashley alongside Olivier Award-winning writers Irene Sankoff and David Hein bring this uplifting true story to the stage in a life-affirming production that has audiences on their feet night after night.

What Did We Think Of Come From Away Musical ?

Absolutely fantastic! From such a tragedy comes a beautiful, moving, funny musical that follows the residents of Gander in newfoundland, who gave their homes and local amenities to 7,000 complete strangers in their hour of need, many of them working for days without sleep, to ensure everyone that was diverted to their airport was fed and clothed.

I was unsure what to expect as it was a truly remarkable story of people showing compassion and kindness, when the world was at a very low point, but this musical gave you all the feels, I laughed, I cried, I clapped and cheered, every single cast member was brilliant, the musicians were phenomenal, and it certainly brightened up a dull October evening.

There were two cast changes tonight, not that you could tell, Sorelle Marsh played Beulah and Kevin Yates played Kev J, both fitted seamlessly into the cast, and it felt like they played that part every day.
