Last night I took four of the children to watch Magic Goes Wrong Tour at Norwich Theatre Royal, they are all HUGE fans of the Play That Goes Wrong and were extremely excited to go and watch the show.
I had booked five seats on Row F, a few of the children were slightly apprehensive that this may be a little too near the front, in case of audience participation, but we were OK, although it’s definitely worth keeping an eye out for random magicians looking for their escaped doves!
Its a very hard show to review as there’s so much I want to tell you and talk about, but I also want you to go and see the show and witness it in all it’s glory, and if I say too much it may spoil some of the utter hilarity that ensued!
Here’s what the blurb says on the theatre website :
Back with their biggest comedy catastrophe to date, multi award-winning Mischief (The Play That Goes Wrong, BBC One’s The Goes Wrong Show) return to the stage with their hilarious new show created with magic legends, Penn & Teller.
A hapless gang of magicians are staging an evening of grand illusion to raise cash for charity. But as the magic turns to mayhem, accidents spiral out of control and so does their fundraising target!
Raising the bar with their dare-devil stunts, jaw-dropping feats and irresistible comedy genius, Mischief’s Magic Goes Wrong comes to Norwich Theatre Royal direct from the West End. Book your tickets now, before they vanish out of sight (or sellout!).
Penn & Teller are co-creators of the show and won’t be appearing on stage.
We have already been to watch Groan Ups and The Comedy About A Bank Robbery, so we knew that the latest Mischief Theatre production would be a must see, which it totally was!
The theatre was almost full to capacity, the recommended age is 11+ and the place was full of tweens through to grandparents, proving this is a show for all ages.
An entire cast of nine people, gave us 2 full hours of side splitting, belly laughing, from start to finish.
Sophisticato (Sam Hill) was your compere for the evening’s charity performance, who tried his very best to hold the show together, despite various interruptions, catastrophes and general mayhem.
He introduced us to the Mind Mangler (Rory Fairbairn) a man of many senses, who is a master at reading minds.
Next was the very daring Blade (Keifer Moriarty), a performer who will have you wincing, with the pain he can endure.
Be sure to look out for the glittery duo Spitzmaus (Jocelyn Prah) and Bar (Chloe Tannenbaum), who entertained us with various acrobatics and stunts.
And not forgetting the other cast members who did a sterling job as stage crew, benefactor, and magicians assistants (Valerie Cutko, Ishbel Cumming, Jay Olpin and Daniel Anthony)
Keep an eye out for the Disasters In Magic Charity Fundraiser lights, they spell out some cracking words throughout the show!
It is a REALLY FUNNY show and if you have members of the family who love the Mischief Theatre productions, then you NEED to go and see this, you won’t regret it!
Magic Goes Wrong Tour is appearing at Norwich Theatre Royal until Saturday 23rd April 2022.
If you want to ensure you don’t miss any amazing shows, you might want to consider their Become a Friend scheme
I purchased a friends membership a few years ago, and the the money I have saved with just one set of tickets has paid for the cost twice over, so if you and your family love going to the theatre, its definitely worth considering.
If you are somewhere else in the country and you’d like to watch The Magic Goes Wrong Tour you can find all their locations on the Mischief Theatre website
