Getting outdoors with the family is a great way to keep healthy and stay active, but also great fun, the Gruffalo Trails are the perfect way to spend an afternoon as a family, but did you know that some of the Foresty England places are currently offering a Superworm Trail ?

The Superworm activity trail can be found at 26 of the nation’s forests across England and with lots of fun activities to complete, the new self-led trail will encourage children to become superheroes of the forest themselves.

What Can I expect on a Superworm Trail ?

Featuring brightly illustrated panels and a trail pack full of fun activities, you’ll get to meet some of your favourite characters from the story. Showcasing the unsung heroes of the forest, the trail will inspire your own little superheroes to think about the everyday heroic feats of the minibeasts in the woods and forests around us.

Don’t forget to grab a trail pack, including your very own mask, and look out for the six crayon rubbings to complete along the way, as you set off with Superworm and become a forest superhero!

Alice Holt Superworm Trail

Location : Bucks Horn Oak, Farnham, GU10 4LS

Superworm trail at Alice Holt – This trail starts at Playwood, near the Visitor Centre. Trail activity packs are available to purchase from the Visitor Centre during opening times and cost just £3.50.

The trail is 1.5km, the grade is classed as Easy, recommended age 3-9 years, but can be enjoyed by the entire family.

Accessibility : Suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, on level or gently sloping paths with one slight incline along the route.

Grizedale Forest Superworm Trail

Location : Grizedale Forest, Hawkshead, LA22 0QJ

Superworm trail at Grizedale – This 1.5 km trail starts at the visitors centre, you can purchase the activity pack for £3.50, the grade is classed as Easy, recommended age 3-9 years, but can be enjoyed by the entire family.

Accessibility : Surfaced paths. Suitable for pushchairs but be aware there are some hilly sections on the route.

Accessibility : Mostly level surfaced trail, with one steep ascent towards the end. Suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. This activity is suitable for off-road mobility scooters. There is seating along the trail if required.

Jeskyns Superworm Trail

Location : Henhurst Road, Cobham, Kent, DA12 3AN

Superworm trail at Jeskyns – This 1.2km trail starts 100m south of the cafe, you can purchase the activity pack for £3.50, the grade is classed as Easy, recommended age 3-9 years, but can be enjoyed by the entire family.

Accessibility : Mostly hard surfaced, with a small grass section.

Length of Time : The trail should keep the young ones entertained for around an hour leaving plenty of time to find more fun and explore the forest.

Kielder Forest Superworm Trail

Location : Kielder Water and Forest Park, Kielder, NE48 1ER

Superworm trail at Kielder Forest – This trail is 2.5km, trail activity packs can be purchased at Dukes Diner outside Kielder Castle, Anglers Arms in Kielder Village, Kielder Waterside and Bellingham Post Office during opening times and cost just £3.50.

This trail is aimed at families with children aged 3-9, but can be enjoyed by all.

Accessibility : The grade is Easy then Moderate. The first half is assisted wheelchair and buggy friendly, second half is moderate with sharp decent and staggered steps.

Length of Time : The trail should keep the young ones entertained for around an hour leaving plenty of time to find more fun and explore the forest.

Accessibility : Trail follows a surfaced path with no steep gradients. Accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Location : Upper Icknield Way, Aston Clinton, Aylesbury, HP22 5NQ

Superworm trail at Wendover Woods – This 2 km trail starts at the information point , you can purchase the activity pack for £3.50, the grade is classed as Easy, recommended age 3-9 years, but can be enjoyed by the entire family.

Accessibility : Mostly surfaced with some well compacted woodland paths. Some hilly sections.

Wyre Forest Superworm Trail

Location : Wyre Forest, Callow Hill, Bewdley, DY14 9XQ

Superworm trail at Wyre Forest – Launching in January. The trail starts below the play area, first left, look for the flags , you can purchase the activity pack for £3.50, the grade is classed as Easy, recommended age 3-9 years, but can be enjoyed by the entire family.
