The Spongebob Musical Swims Its Way To Norwich

Last night I went along to Norwich Theatre with four of the children aged 14 to 25 to see The Spongebob Musical, all of the children have been wanting to see this for a long time and I can see why!

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea and became the hottest star on Broadway?

SpongeBob SquarePants! Plunge into this stunning all-singing, all-dancing, dynamic stage show!

When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world!

With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. The power of optimism really can save the world!

An exciting new production featuring irresistible characters, magical choreography and dazzling costumes; this deep-sea pearl of a show is really set to make a splash with audiences young and old as the must-see musical of 2023. The future is bright, the future is bold, the future is THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL.

THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL is based on the series by Stephen Hillenburg, with book by Kyle Jarrow and featuring original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I. and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton. Additional music by Tom Kitt. Musical production conceived by Tina Landau.

What Did We Think Of The Spongebob Musical?

A fantastically fun, bright musical that will have all members of the family smiling and chuckling, whether they have watched Spongebob or not!

and Divina De Gareth Gates, Squidward Q Tentacles Nickelodeon The Spongebob Musical The Show party for Press Niight, Birmingham Hippodrome, Birmingham

I was very excited to hear that Gareth Gates was playing Squidward during the Norwich leg of the tour, we had seen him play Willard in Footloose and he was brilliant, so I was expecting good things, and he certainly didn’t disappoint, he had both the mannerisms and voice, just perfect!

Lewis Cornay was the Ultimate Spongebob, from the voice to the facial expressions and the awkward dancing, its not often you see an actor and think he was born for this role, but that’s exactly how it felt watching him.

Irfan Damani was a fabulous Patrick, the bff chemistry between him and Spongebob was evident and made for a great pairing, which brought both characters to life in a beautiful way.

Divina De Campo was excellent as Plankton, alongside Karen The Computer (played by Hannah Lowther), another fantastic pairing, Divina was the perfect panto villain, and I am excited to see what role she takes on next!

For me one of the standout performances was Sandy Cheeks (played by Chrissie Bhima), I have always had an admiration for Sandy and her science brain in the show, and I really felt that Chrissie brought her to life, with as much enthusiasm and gusto as the character demands! (Plus she ultimately saves the day, so a true hero, with the help of her two friends!)

The entire cast were amazing, so much fun and energy in one place, outstanding costumes and a brilliant set, makes this one unforgettable musical, that you should all go and book to see NOW!

The Spongebob Musical is in Norwich until Saturday 8th July, but if you are not local, you can check out the UK Tour dates and locations HERE
