By now you will all know my love of Norwich Theatre Royal and the amazing shows and musicals they put on, if you haven’t read any of my reviews, check them out under the Arts & Culture category. They have some amazing family shows, the children particularly liked Babe The Sheep Pig and The Railway Children. They are also extremely excited about this year’s pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, which is one of Eowyn’s favourite stories.
If you are looking for somewhere to take the children over the Christmas period, this is one not to be missed.
SLEEPING BEAUTY – DECEMBER 13 2017 TO JANUARY 14 2018
Two television favourites are heading up the cast for this year’s Norwich Theatre Royal panto Sleeping Beauty – plus some regular faces also make a return and all are guaranteed to provide plenty of festive fun for families.
The panto will step back in time to the turn of the last century in a grand country house where Coronation Street actor and children’s television legend Derek Griffiths will be using his magical powers as Chortwood the butler to ward off the evil Dowager Aunt Vipera, played by EastEnders ‘Jean Slater’ Gillian Wright.
Derek Griffiths is best-known to a generation of TV viewers for hosting classic children’s programmes Play School and Play Away, and more recently became a familiar face on small screen again for his portrayal of motor-bike loving and mild-mannered mechanic Freddie Smith on the Weatherfield ‘cobbles’. He first won the hearts of Norwich panto-goers 12 years ago when he appeared in the 2005-2006 Theatre Royal production of Peter Pan, playing Captain Hook.
EastEnders actor Gillian Wright will be leaving the soap’s Albert Square and heading to Norfolk for her role as the panto baddie.
They both join seasoned Theatre Royal panto comedy double-act Richard Gauntlett and Ben Langley. Richard is returning to Norwich once again as director, writer and panto dame and ‘housekeeper’ Mrs Midges for his 17th festive production in the city, teaming up for the fourth consecutive year with comedian and variety star Ben Langley as Muddles Midges, the ‘under-gardener’.
The cast is completed by Elizabeth Carter (recently seen at the Theatre Royal as the lead Laura in Dreamboats & Petticoats) as Sleeping Beauty/Patience Midges, while Glenn Adamson, (who has spent the last two Christmases in panto at Colchester’s Mercury Theatre) will play her Prince/The Honourable Timothy Norbridge. Professional opera singer Stephen Godward (who performed recently in Norwich with The National Gilbert & Sullivan Company) will be bringing his rich vocals to the role of Lord Teddy Norbridge of Norbridge Abbey.
Richard Gauntlett has promised Sleeping Beauty will deliver lots of traditional panto fun with all the usual Norwich Theatre Royal special twists including lots of water. “We will be getting very wet this year. We will be getting very, very wet!” he said.
We have once joined forces with Norwich Theatre Royal to give one lucky family the chance to win a family ticket (for two adults and two children) to see Sleeping Beauty on Friday, December 15, at 7.30pm.

Twisternet – the world’s first pop up tennis net enables the family to play tennis anywhere, anytime. It’s lightweight, portable and requires no assembly. It simply pops up and folds down. It is the brainchild of Elliott Mould, the world number one Touchtennis champion (2010 to 2014, 2016) and his business partner David Free. You can take the Twisternet with you and play anywhere such as in the garden, park or beach. Continue reading
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… I was born!
No only joking it wasn’t that long ago, 41 years to be precise and the galaxy was actually Kent, so not that far, but even so, I have always had a soft spot for the place, so you can imagine my immense excitement when I found out there was going to be a Big Day Out Festival in Mote Park, Maidstone on 1st July 2017.
Starting at 12.00 and ending at 22.00 on 1st July 2017, with last entry at 20.00, it looks like its going to be a fantastic family day out, every one of the family is excited about a particular act or event taking place. There really is something for everyone.
Viggo is a tiny bit excited about Paw Patrol and i’m sure Eowyn will love the Fairytale Princesses, Neva is hoping Bounce Land will be available for teens too, and Tyrus is slightly bubble obsessive.
The children are huge fans of BGT, so Diversity is a must see, I confess to watching X Factor most years, so the acts appearing are no strangers, and taking me back to my youth with Atomic Kitten!
I know there are lots of mums out there who have a secret crush on the one and only Mr Bloom, who will also be appearing!
Tickets are priced at £25 per adults and £12 per child aged 6-15, under 5s are just £1, but be warned, the prices will increase after 1st June, so get your tickets NOW!
Or, you could enter my rather fabulous giveaway for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children) to the Big Day Out Festival.
Good Luck xxx
The one thing I used to dread when going away with this huge brood is the packing, especially when they were younger, my only problem now is the size of each of them, means we need LOTS of luggage to transport them.
When they were smaller they also needed lots of stuff, especially at the time when they were weaning, I can remember when we first took Xene away to Berwick-upon-Tweed aged 5 months, back in those days it was recommended that BF babies also started solids at 4 months old, but it also meant that you still had to sterilise EVERYTHING, (much easier now it’s 6 months and you only need to pop all the utensils in the dishwasher!) so we had a huge, full size steriliser to take away with us, thankfully the clever people at Milton have developed the Solo Travel Steriliser.
Solo Travel Steriliser
The Milton Solo Travel Steriliser is 2-in-1 microwave or cold water steriliser, ideal for sterilising when travelling or away from home. It cleans and sterilises bottles, teethers, plastic toys, breastfeeding equipment and other small baby equipment from 2 minutes in the microwave and in 15 minutes for cold water. A portable, lightweight, practical way to sterilise – whether at home, a day trip out, overnight stay or away on holiday! Its unique ‘lay flat’ design fits in most microwaves. The patented vent technology means the Solo retains more heat for better sterilisation, automatically releasing excess steam gently and safely.
So for all of you that still have little ones, and are going away soon, then enter the giveaway to win yourself one.
