7 Fun Camping Activities for Kids

Let’s be honest, camping with kids can be challenging. If they get bored, they might get cranky and ruin the experience. So, you need to keep them busy and entertained throughout your trip. But don’t worry, that’s not hard to do!

I’ve got some awesome activities and games that will keep your little ones excited and even teach them a thing or two about nature. So, dive in to learn more!

Sleeping Bag Race

The sleeping bag race is one of the best physical games for kids that will surely tire them out before bedtime.

All you have to do is put your kids in their sleeping bags, line them up, and then let them race to the finish line. Whoever reaches the finish line first wins. It is a silly game that made me laugh so much as a child.

Parents can also participate in the hopping race and make this activity much more fun!

Just make sure to supervise your kids and let them race in a safe area so they don’t get injured.

Rock Painting

Rock painting was one of my absolute favourites as a kid! You can do it for hours without getting bored.

Get some acrylic paints and paintbrushes. Then, let your kid start hunting down the best rocks they can use for painting. Rock hunting is a super fun activity on its own!

Once the kids have found the perfect rocks, let them unleash their creativity and paint whatever they want on these rocks. You can make it more fun by creating a competition for the best-looking rock.

Stargazing

Who doesn’t like to lie back at night and watch the glowing stars that are trillions of miles away from Earth? I loved doing this as a kid and I still love it now.

If you want to make it more challenging, you can try finding constellations. It’s a fun challenge that will give you a glimpse into the lives of old navigators who used the stars for direction.

Scavenger Hunt

Good old-fashioned scavenger hunt is the favorite game for my little ones. I t keeps them entertained for hours and hours and satisfies their sense of adventure.

Make a checklist of things for little ones to find during their outdoor adventure. You can make them hunt for fun things like a twig, a leaf, a wild animal, a tree, an insect, or even a piece of trash, etc.

Every time I go camping I try making a list of different items so my kids don’t get bored. The treasures that are waiting to be discovered are endless.

Word Scrabble

Another fun game that your kiddos are going to love is Word Scrabble. It is an interesting puzzle game that will stimulate their thinking process and even improve their problem-solving skills.

Playing Scrabble is very straightforward, and we’ve pretty much been familiar with it since we were kids! Still, you can check the rules once again before playing the game.

Additionally, if you’re looking to find new words formed through weird letter combinations, or want to teach certain tricks to your kids, you can refer this site for suggestions!

Cloud Watching

If it’s a cloudy day, then you are in luck! It’s time to bring your kids for cloud watching. This ancient game has been there for centuries and it’s suitable for all ages.

It’s relaxing, imaginative, and doesn’t need any equipment or requirements except for some clouds in the sky. Lie back on the ground and look at the clouds and try to figure out what shape they are forming.

Take turns with your kids to name what you see. There’s no winner or loser in this game and there’s no right or wrong answer. So, unleash your imagination and name everything you could possibly see in the clouds.

Short Hikes

There’s nothing cuter than hiking with your little ones and exploring the surroundings of your camping site. One of the things I love most about hiking since I was a child is that it taught me a lot about nature and made me fall in love with all the wild animals I saw.

Kids get tired fast, so try to keep the hikes as short as possible. Tell them stories while walking, sing out loud, and teach them about whatever you find on your hike. You’ll create beautiful memories that your kids will never forget!

Final Thoughts

There’s nothing quite like spending time in nature with your family and enjoying fun activities with them. I hope that all the fun games and activities in this article will help you create memories that you and your kids will cherish forever!
